New Meeting! 3rd Wednesdays

LLL of Fairfax City now meets twice a month!

On the 2nd Wednesday of each month, come to our Breastfeeding Topics Series meeting. In these meetings we rotate through a series of four topics:

• The Advantages of Breastfeeding to Mother and Baby
• Baby Arrives: The Family and the Breastfed Baby
• The Art of Breastfeeding and Avoiding Difficulties
• Nutrition and Weaning

Since these meetings focus on the needs and experiences of the mothers present, each topic is different each time it is discussed. Please join us for more than one series!

On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, come expand on your experience as a breastfeeding mother with a variety of discussion topics. Some of the topics we have covered and plan to cover are:

• Nighttime Parenting
• Dealing with Criticism
• Fertility: Achieving or Avoiding Pregnancy
• Weaning
• Solid Foods
• The Co-Parent's Role in the Breastfeeding Relationship
• Asking for and Accepting Help

We welcome your suggestions for additional topics.

November Meeting

Join us for our Fall Potluck!!!

Please join us on Sunday, October 31st from 10am to 2pm for our Fall Potluck! Families welcome, we thought this would be a great way to get everyone together outside of our monthly meetings.

The picnic will be held at Providence Park (10715 West Drive Fairfax City) and in conjunction with our picnic we are doing a photo fundraiser with Jessica Wallach of Portrait Playtime (http://www.portraitplaytime.com). If you are interested in signing up for one of our 20 minute photo sessions during the picnic, please call her at 703-860-2222 and reference our picnic.

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action statement on Norwegian Research

Norwegian researchers recently published a study that says breastfeeding is not important to babies or mothers.

WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) has issued a statement analyzing and refuting the Norwegian researchers.

February meeting postponed one week

Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday so our Series Meeting is postponed one week.

Join us Wednesday, February 17 at 10:00 am at Fairfax Christian Church.

Inclement Weather Reminder

If Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are closed on the second Wednesday of the month, our meeting will be moved to the third Wednesday instead. If FCPS open two hours late, the meeting will start at 11:00 a.m. School closings are announced on local radio and television stations (including Cox Cable channel 21).

Potluck Brunch Wed., Jan. 20

You are invited to join us for LLL of Fairfax City's annual Kick-off the New Year Potluck Brunch, Wednesday, February 20th at 10:00 am at Fairfax Christian Church, 10185 Main Street.

Bring your baby. Bring your partner (men are welcome at this event). Bring your child's grandparent. Bring your toddler and older children. Bring a co-worker, neighbor, sister, cousin or friend.

Please bring a healthful dish to share.

We'll supply plates, cups, napkins, utensils and drinks.

This is always a fun and relaxed event so do consider bringing a friend or family member who has never attended a La Leche League meeting.
