Live, Love, Latch! 2020 Event Series

La Leche League of Fairfax City is excited to present our Live, Love, Latch! digital event series for 2020. While we won't be holding out in-person event this year due to COVID, we still want to present engaging and informative events for nursing families to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month.

Breastfeeding takes a community of support! Live, Love, Latch! is about making that community of support more visible. We are excited to move our much-loved Live, Love, Latch! online this year!

Breastfeeding Art for Non Artists on Zoom
Leader Marianne, who is NOT an artist, invites parents to express their feelings about breastfeeding/ chestfeeding/ human-milk-feeding, in a gentle, fun way. Bring markers or crayons or a writing implement & a piece of paper.  If you want, bring your parenting partner and reflect together on your parenting experience.

Supporting Your Body: Strengthening and Stretching for Nursing and the Postpartum Period on Zoom 
Join Dr. Ryan, pregnancy and postpartum chiropractor, to learn how to best support your body during nursing and the postpartum period! The transition of the body into nursing and postpartum can be comfortable for both you and your baby. Learn exercises to generate strength in your core and upper body to help support you while holding and nursing baby. We’ll finish with stretching focusing on the upper body to help keep your muscles and ligaments flexible. These moves will be easy to add into your daily routine!
Dr. Ryan is a family chiropractor with a focus in chiropractic care for pregnancy and postpartum care as well as babies and children. She is passionate about supporting women during the motherhood transition, from preconception to postpartum and beyond. She specializes in chiropractic care and education around healthy living and movement. She also loves working with babies and children, supporting their bodies with gentle chiropractic adjustments to help them grow and thrive. 
Dr. Ryan practices with her fiance, Dr. Dan, in Sterling, VA at their practice Connect First Family Chiropractic. She also practices at Premier Birth Center in Chantilly, VA.

- What are some things people can do to support reaching their breastfeeding goals before they go to the hospital?
- How does birth impact breastfeeding?
- Do c-sections impact breastfeeding?
- How can a partner or support person help?
- Is it possible to nurse even if things don't start out great?
Vanessa Hanible is a Public Health Professional with experience supporting women and families experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. Vanessa currently works as a Birth and Postpartum doula assisting families during the perinatal period with educational, emotional, and information support as they acclimate to parenthood.
Vanessa is a Certified Lactation Counselor with an IBCLC Candidate for spring 2021. Vanessa is passionate about advocating for black women to receive adequate and equitable treatment within the healthcare system especially during the Perinatal period. She is a member of the DC Breastfeeding Coalition and Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, Inc.
